Job Responsibilities
  • The Pharmacist collaborates with the Director of Pharmacy, adhering to established protocols to compound and dispense medications and pharmaceutical supplies based on physician prescriptions.
  • Engages in Performance Improvement initiatives within the healthcare facility.
  • Provides consultation and guidance to Administration, Medical Staff, and hospital personnel regarding quality, regulatory, and risk management issues.
  • Acts as a consultant to clinical and Medical Staff, offering support and expertise.
  • Assists the Director in organizing and executing Pharmacy operations.
  • Interprets medication orders, compounds, and dispenses pharmaceuticals in compliance with legal, ethical, and professional pharmacy standards.
  • Supervises technical support staff within the Pharmacy.
  • Contributes to clinical, quality management, and educational programs.
  • Offers support across all departments for patient care, particularly for individuals aged 18 and older, including the geriatric population.
  • Participates in the dissemination of drug information through in-service education for hospital staff and consultations with patients and Medical staff.
  • Provides assistance to fellow Pharmacists and Technicians in their routine responsibilities as needed.
  • Directs and provides professional and technical oversight to Pharmacy personnel.
  • Exhibits professional judgment in delivering therapeutic and drug information to patients and healthcare professionals.
  • Demonstrates competence in addressing the treatment needs of adult and geriatric patients.
  • Capable of processing a minimum of 40 medication orders per four-hour shift.
  • Generates necessary reports, including Pick I.V. and Production reports.
  • Correctly performs Backup Procedures.
  • Assists Technicians with technical tasks as required.
  • Maintains aseptic techniques in all procedures.
  • Recycles products appropriately.
  • Verifies technician-prepared products prior to release.
  • Ensures that Technicians maintain I.V. refrigerator temperature and hood cleaning logs.
  • Accurately fills orders with the correct medications.
  • Checks the accuracy of support staff before medication release.
  • Prioritizes tasks to prepare STAT, Now, and Waiting orders based on urgency.
  • Ensures follow-through on fill on arrival orders.
  • Reviews patient profiles to confirm safe and appropriate drug therapy.
  • Avoids therapeutic duplication and significant drug interactions.
  • Prevents adverse drug reactions related to allergies.
  • Ensures medication orders are suitable for patient characteristics such as height, weight, age, renal function, and medical conditions.
  • Provides Pharmacokinetics Dosing Services, ensuring priority dosing is appropriate.
  • Interprets laboratory levels accurately and modifies doses as necessary.
  • Documents progress notes according to established protocols.
  • Dates, times, and initials all vials for reuse.
  • Calculates fluid, electrolyte, and caloric needs competently.
  • Monitors patient suitability for specific formulations.
  • Clarifies any ambiguous orders with the prescribing physician.
  • Stays updated on new pharmaceutical developments.
  • Ensures additives are added in the correct sequence.
  • Maintains accurate syringe and vial counts.
  • Labels containers correctly, including auxiliary labels.
  • Completes packaging, including seals and protective wraps.
  • Ensures the security of the Pharmacy and controlled substances.
  • Communicates pending issues to staff effectively.
  • Accurately fills orders with the correct medications.
  • Prepares unit-of-use dosages whenever feasible.
  • Keeps the Director informed about workload status.
  • Prioritizes work effectively to manage urgent and routine orders.
  • Ensures follow-through on fill on arrival orders.
Job Requirements
  • Must have a valid KY BOP license and CPh certification.
  • BLS certification is required, with documentation to be submitted (must be through the American Heart Association); RQI certifications will not be accepted.
Schedule Information
  • Shifts will vary throughout the week, typically from 8 AM to 8 PM.
  • Every third weekend commitment is expected once orientation is completed.
