Retail Operations Manager Job Overview

Reports to: District Manager

Position Summary

The Retail Operations Manager plays a pivotal role in the success of Buff City Soap Co by guiding a team to deliver the Buff City Soap Experience to our customers. This position requires regular discretion in overseeing the overall store operations. A significant portion of the role involves supervising and directing the workforce, making staffing decisions (including hiring, training, evaluating, and scheduling), ensuring customer satisfaction and quality service, maintaining production and inventory levels, conducting product quality assessments, motivating staff to meet performance objectives, addressing minor maintenance issues, ensuring store cleanliness, and managing safety and security protocols. The Retail Operations Manager is responsible for exemplifying and adhering to the principles of Buff City Soap Co.

Key Responsibilities
Responsibilities and essential functions include but are not limited to the following:

Customer Satisfaction - Ensuring outstanding customer satisfaction in your store by:

•Developing and mentoring employees to provide exceptional customer experiences.

•Promptly addressing customer concerns or issues.

•Prioritizing the customer experience above all other responsibilities.

Leadership - Setting clear goals for the team, enhancing organizational capability, and demonstrating collaborative work:

•Maintaining composure during high-volume periods or unusual events.

•Consistently serving as a positive role model.

•Promoting a "customer-first" mindset by holding team members accountable for delivering exceptional service.

•Driving company metrics through actionable plans. Actively motivating and guiding the team by implementing company standard operating procedures.

•Leading with integrity and transparency while fostering the culture, values, and mission of Buff City Soap Co.

•Planning, identifying, communicating, and delegating responsibilities to ensure seamless operations.

•Providing coaching and guidance to the team to achieve operational objectives. Regularly assessing the store environment and key metrics to identify challenges, concerns, and opportunities for enhancement.

•Directly accountable for the cleanliness, maintenance, and organization of the store (Retail Operations Managers are expected to engage in cleaning, maintenance, and product production).

Strategic Planning and Execution - Formulating strategic and operational plans for the team, managing implementation, and evaluating outcomes:

•Overseeing store staffing levels to promote employee development and fulfill operational requirements.

•Recruiting, training, developing, and mentoring Assistant Managers.

•Identifying and prioritizing communications, using discretion to filter messages to the store team. Communicating clearly, concisely, and accurately.

•Continuously developing and communicating production plans based on inventory levels and product sales.

•Managing event scheduling, planning, and execution.

•Coordinating fundraising and community initiatives.

•Playing a vital role in driving community engagement through social media platforms.

•Implementing grassroots marketing strategies to attract foot traffic for events.

•Adhering to inventory and ordering standard operating procedures to maintain accurate inventory levels.

Operational Excellence - Providing functional expertise and executing operational responsibilities:

•Ensuring compliance with applicable wage and hour regulations for nonexempt team members and minors.

•Utilizing operational tools to plan for and achieve excellence in store operations. Tools include labor guidelines, reports, cash management, production standards, and inventory management.

•Leveraging financial reports to identify and address trends and issues affecting store performance.

•The Retail Operations Manager is expected to work a minimum of 45 hours per week, including mid or closing shifts and weekend availability.

Sales Growth & Team Development - Equipping team members with coaching, feedback, and growth opportunities while building effective teams:

•Conducting regular performance evaluations, providing constructive feedback, and establishing challenging goals to enhance sales performance.

•Managing ongoing sales initiatives.

•Basic computer skills (proficiency in Word, Excel, and Outlook)

Physical Requirements
•Ability to stand and walk for extended periods

•Ability to bend at the waist

•Ability to lift and carry items, sometimes exceeding 50 lbs

•Ability to bend down to pick up items from the floor

•Ability to perform cleaning tasks including dusting, sweeping, mopping, and scrubbing

•Ability to work around raw materials and fragrances without irritation.
