POSITION SUMMARY
The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is pivotal in steering and supervising the financial operations of the corporation. This role encompasses the preparation of current financial reports and summaries while also developing forecasts for future growth. The CFO will manage daily financial operations and provide strategic financial guidance to secure the company's long-term economic prosperity.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversee the preparation of all financial documents, including income statements, balance sheets, shareholder reports, tax filings, and reports for governmental agencies.
- Analyze profit forecasts against actual figures and budgeted expenses, making necessary adjustments to future projections and budgets.
- Review and enhance the planning process, suggesting improvements to existing methodologies.
- Examine operations to pinpoint areas requiring reorganization, downsizing, or elimination.
- Collaborate with the CEO and other executives to align planning and set priorities for the organization.
- Research long-term economic trends and assess their implications for future market share growth.
- Manage fund investments and collaborate with investment bankers to secure additional capital for expansion.
- Oversee all aspects of cash management, investments, insurance, budgeting, and financial reporting, driving the company's financial strategy.
- Coordinate the development of annual operating, capital, and program budgets, along with reporting on them.
- Ensure cash flow aligns with operations by supervising daily accounting, recording, reporting, and internal control activities.
- Establish and implement best practices and tools to maintain a well-controlled yet adaptable organization with robust fiscal management and effective communication.
- Comply with national and local financial regulations by reviewing existing and new legislation and taking appropriate actions.
- Work with senior management to efficiently develop budget proposals and ensure compliance with contracts and grants.
- Investigate revenue opportunities and economic trends, analyzing internal operations to identify areas for cost reduction and process improvement.
- Conduct risk management by evaluating company liabilities and investments, managing capital structure and fundraising initiatives.
- Monitor business performance using tracking tools, implement corrective measures as necessary, and prepare detailed reports for management and stakeholders.
- Supervise the Accounting department, budget preparation, and audit functions.
- Collaborate with department heads to monitor performance and provide recommendations.
- Perform other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Strong knowledge and understanding of Inupiat culture.
- Exceptional management and supervisory abilities.
- Outstanding analytical and organizational skills.
- Proficient in database and accounting software applications.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Accounting, or Finance.
- Eight to ten years of experience in financial management.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master's degree in Business Administration, Accounting, or Finance.
- Certified Public Accountant designation is a plus.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Ability to lift up to 15 pounds occasionally.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
- Moderately frequent travel may be necessary.
