Position Overview:

The Utilities Shift Operator is tasked with ensuring the seamless operation of all Clean utility systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the functionality of the facility's utility generation and distribution systems, including but not limited to: Andover Building Automation System (BAS), Air Drying, Reverse Osmosis (RO), Electrodeionization (EDI), Emergency Power, Water-For-Injection (WFI), Ethanol Distillation, Clean Steam, Acetone Distillation, Tower Cooling Water, and Cold Ethanol. This includes constant monitoring of various Distributive Control Systems (DCS).
  • Troubleshoot and maintain utility systems in collaboration with shift technicians and other departmental staff as required.
  • Enforce and implement site-specific Utility Operating Procedures related to utility management.
  • Coordinate utility outages during both routine and emergency situations.
  • Provide training to shift technicians on safety protocols, machinery operation, and repair procedures as directed by Utilities Management.
  • Respond to alarms from DCS and BAS, ensuring that operational equipment and environmental conditions (temperature, humidity, and pressure differentials) are maintained.
  • Address utility-related complaints from site personnel, ensuring comfort and operational efficiency.
  • Actively participate in the facility's emergency response team.
  • Serve as Incident Commander during utilities-related emergencies or unusual incidents in the absence of the Utility Shift Supervisor.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Clean Utility Operator Level 2:

  • Comprehensive understanding of utility operations, including BAS, RO, EDI, Emergency Power, WFI, and other related systems.
  • Ability to foster positive relationships with cross-functional teams across various business units.
  • Proficient in using personal computers and familiar with Windows applications and web-based programs.
  • Capable of interpreting and applying information from various technical documents.
  • Strong mathematical skills applicable to assigned tasks.
  • Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
  • Familiarity with industrial safety and environmental regulations, including Process Safety Management and Risk Management Plans.
  • Understanding of digital control systems.

Clean Utility Operator Level 3:

  • Skills and knowledge as defined in the previous level.
  • Proficient in utilizing computerized maintenance management systems for parts identification and work request coordination.
  • Capable of supporting the installation, startup, and commissioning of Capital Projects.
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations regarding safe work practices and process safety management.
  • Effective communication skills for problem resolution with technical personnel.

Work Schedule: 12-hour rotating shifts.

Qualifications:

Utilities Shift Operator Level 1:

  • Associate's degree in a relevant technical field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.

Utilities Shift Operator Level 2:

  • Associate's degree in a relevant technical field.
  • Required licenses include Universal Refrigeration Certification and Ammonia Operator 1 License.

Utilities Shift Operator Level 3:

  • Associate's degree in a relevant technical field.
  • Required licenses include National Institute for the Uniform Licensing of Power Engineers Inc. (NIULPE) Power Engineer Certification, Class 3.
  • Minimum of 6 years of relevant experience supported by licenses.

Occupational Demands:

The role is performed in a manufacturing environment with rotating shifts, involving exposure to biological fluids, chemicals, and manufacturing equipment. Personal protective equipment is mandatory, and the position requires physical stamina for tasks such as heavy lifting and prolonged standing.
