Transportation Technician I - Materials Specialist

STATE PROFILE SUMMARY: Under direct supervision, this role provides foundational technical assistance in various domains including OMAT, maintenance, construction, intermodal, planning, utilities, surveying, environmental, or traffic.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position entails the following responsibilities:

  1. Conducting standard tests on materials utilized in highway construction.
  2. Performing calculations and documenting test outcomes.
  3. Managing the operation and upkeep of diverse testing instruments and tools used in construction material assessments.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

The chosen candidate must fulfill the stated minimum qualifications, including State Entry Qualifications and Agency Specific Qualifications.

STATE ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS:

High school diploma or GED.

AGENCY MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Successful completion of the Engineering Technician examination administered by the relevant state department.

Ability to acquire skills necessary for performing routine support tasks in designated program areas (e.g., construction, surveying, traffic operations, laboratory testing, or data collection).

Capability to learn the operation of required equipment and/or instruments.

Ability to understand laboratory and/or field sampling and testing of construction materials.

Proficiency in basic computations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.

Dedication to delivering quality customer service.
