Position Overview

We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Staff Member specializing in edge plasma physics for magnetic fusion devices. In this role, you will collaborate with experimental teams to tackle challenges related to edge plasmas in spherical tokamaks.

Your research will focus on advancing our understanding of edge plasma transport and plasma-surface interactions within the Mega-Ampere Spherical Tokamak Upgrade. This will involve conducting new experiments, analyzing diagnostic data, developing innovative diagnostic tools, and comparing findings with numerical simulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct research in edge plasma and plasma-surface interaction physics.
  • Develop, operate, and maintain edge plasma diagnostics.
  • Utilize numerical analysis tools to interpret experimental measurements.
  • Collaborate with team members to validate experimental data against simulation results.
  • Document and publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals and present at conferences.
  • Pursue independent research interests while engaging with a diverse range of scientists.
  • Adhere to all safety, security, and business practice policies.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • PhD in plasma physics or a related discipline.
  • Proven knowledge of fundamental plasma physics.
  • Experience with experimental measurements in plasma devices.
  • A strong publication record in peer-reviewed literature and experience presenting research to diverse audiences.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively to meet program objectives.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with edge plasmas in fusion devices.
  • Understanding of tokamak operations and experimental data interpretation.
  • Experience with data analysis programming languages, such as Python and IDL.
  • Knowledge of edge plasma diagnostic techniques and atomic physics.
  • Experience with scientific imaging and spectrometry.

Position Information

This is a postdoctoral appointment with the potential for extension up to three years, available to candidates who have completed their PhD by the time of hire.
