Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Assistant to join our team at WellSpan Health. As a Medical Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and supporting our healthcare team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Obtain and document patient vital signs, including temperature, blood pressure, weight, BMI, respirations, and pulse.
  • Collect and process patient specimens, ensuring proper handling, storage, and transportation to the lab.
  • Prepare patients for scheduled procedures, ensuring they are properly gowned and instruments and supplies are set up.
  • Administer vaccines, medications, and controlled substances/narcotics as prescribed by the provider, under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse or provider.
  • Document and process prescription requests and refills per protocol.
  • Perform basic office procedures, examinations, and/or tests ordered by the provider, as skill competencies demonstrate competence.
  • Provide patients with standard patient care instructions and education, reviewing with patient and family members as directed by providers.
  • Obtain comprehensive health information from patient/family members to review with providers or clinical resources over the phone, using this information to assist providers in determining the urgency for care or an alternative venue for care for patients with acute problems.
  • Efficiently manage daily patient flow, prioritizing tasks and activities delegated by the care team, including in-basket management.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of patient health information, completing annual WSH Corporate Compliance and other mandatory education.
Requirements
  • Associates degree or diploma program in Medical Assisting required.
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) certification upon hire required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification upon hire required.
  • Medical terminology knowledge required.
  • Proficient communication skills, including SBAR technique, required.
  • Ability to effectively present clinical information to the care team required.
  • Proficient in navigating and entering information into an electronic health record required.
