Job Description and Duties

This position is part of the Employment Development Department's cybersecurity team, responsible for assessing and mitigating risks to the department's information systems. The successful candidate will work closely with system owners to identify and address potential security threats, ensuring the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of sensitive data.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Apply IT risk management best practices, threat modeling, penetration testing, and secure architecture to identify and mitigate potential security threats.
  • Assess and advise on risk management, security controls, and compliance with relevant regulations and standards.
  • Research and document cybersecurity defense techniques, guidance, hazards, and threats to proactively prepare for and prevent risk acts.
  • Serve as a team member performing targeted risk assessments using penetration testing tools and techniques.
  • Document findings in a risk assessment report, track risk items in a risk register, and develop corrective action plans.
  • Work with system owners to develop and maintain system security plans, prepare system certifications or recertifications, and accreditation documentation.
  • Continuously assess security posture and work collaboratively with large multi-discipline teams.
  • Provide consultation and expertise in multiple IT domains to ensure compliance with enterprise IT security policies, control agency mandates, and cybersecurity best practices.

This position is located at EDD's headquarters office at 800 Capitol Mall, Sacramento. Benefits of working at this location include:

This position may be eligible for a hybrid work schedule. The amount of telework is at the discretion of the Department and is subject to change as business needs arise. Employees are required to report to their headquarters office on their assigned in-office days. Travel expenses to and from the assigned headquarters are the responsibility of the employee.
