Job Overview

The Assistant Teacher position at Friends Center for Children is a dynamic opportunity to support the Head Teacher in the general supervision and management of children and curricula. As a key member of our team, you will contribute to the implementation of our mission by providing best practices in childcare while upholding the Quaker principles of simplicity, peaceful resolutions of conflicts, integrity, community, and equity.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with the Head Teacher to plan, supervise, and implement infant/toddler curriculum that reflects the Quaker values and best practices.
  • Meet the physical, social-emotional, and cognitive needs of all children in the center.
  • Provide materials and resources that align with our philosophy and support children's interests and developmental needs.
  • Contribute to maintaining a positive and organized classroom environment, including changing materials on the walls and/or bulletin boards bi-monthly.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships among staff, parents, guardians, and volunteers.
  • Attend all staff meetings and participate in ongoing professional development.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will possess:

  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Fluency in Spanish is a plus.
  • A.A. or B.A. in Early Childhood Education preferred.
  • Cultural sensitivity and the ability to work with a diverse population.
  • Experience in a child-care setting is preferred.
Physical Requirements

This role requires:

  • Vision and hearing within normal range for sight and sound supervision.
  • The ability to lift and carry 40 pounds.
  • The ability to bend, sit on the floor for prolonged periods, and get up and down with ease.
