Position Overview
The individual in this role is responsible for preparing routine H&E and specialized stains essential for the microscopic evaluation of surgical specimens. This position also involves assisting in the surgical pathology grossing area and contributing to the overall upkeep of the histopathology laboratory.

Work Schedule
This position operates from Tuesday to Friday, 12:00 PM to 8:30 PM, and Saturday from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, with Sundays and Mondays off.

Key Responsibilities

  • Specimen Processing: Conducts the processing of surgical specimens for examination, which includes embedding, sectioning, staining, coverslipping, and labeling.
  • Quality Control: Executes and documents quality control measures in accordance with manufacturer and laboratory specifications.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Completes competency assessments within the required timeframe and assists with regulatory inspections as necessary.
  • Customer Interaction: Adheres to department standards for customer service, ensuring prompt and professional responses to inquiries.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Maintains equipment logs and performs routine calibration and preventive maintenance on laboratory instruments.

Qualifications

  • Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science or a related field is required.
  • Experience: A minimum of one year of laboratory experience is preferred.
  • Certifications: ASCP or NCA certification is required, with eligibility to sit for the certification exam within the first year of employment.

Skills and Abilities
To succeed in this role, candidates must possess a solid understanding of clinical laboratory science principles and demonstrate the ability to apply technical knowledge accurately in complex testing scenarios. Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail are essential for assessing the accuracy of results.
