Job Summary

The Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist plays a crucial role by sharing their expertise with site leaders and teammates. They address a wide variety of EHS-related matters that impact the business. Reporting directly to the General Manager, this individual will assume responsibility for a broad range of EHS activities. These include safety management, conducting facility safety audits to ensure compliance, providing safety training, participating in accident investigations, and leading plant safety programs. The EHS Specialist collaborates closely with leaders and teammates across the organization to develop and implement EHS initiatives at the local level.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Establish and Maintain a Site-Based Annual Safety Incentive Program
  • Partner with site leaders in investigating, reporting, and developing action plans related to safety incidents and near-miss incidents.
  • Ensure completion of new employee safety onboarding and all annual recertifications.
  • Organize and oversee monthly safety committee meetings.
  • Oversee First Responder program and certifications.
  • Develop and present training materials to promote employee safety education.
  • Maintain and monitor all safety metrics and required OSHA reporting for the site.
  • Maintain training and certification records for compliance in an electronic system.
  • Enhance the conditions of the environment, including air and water, and alleviate pollution as well as other factors that affect the state of the environment; and aid in implementing sustainability efforts.
  • Recognize, assess, and control safety and health hazards in the facility, and work with internal departments to minimize occupational health and safety risks and manage compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Research and examine sources of pollution and hazards; calculate findings, analyze data, create, and propose ways to eliminate pollution and hazards, and develop reports and presentations related to the organization's environmental regulatory compliance mission.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities

No formal supervisory responsibilities in this position. May provide informal assistance such as technical guidance, and/or training to co-workers. Leads by example and models behaviors that are consistent with the company's values.

Qualifications
  • Two-year associate degree in safety, industrial or occupational hygiene or related field.
  • 2 to 4 years of experience in a manufacturing setting.
  • OSHA experience and training strongly preferred.
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience.
