Job Summary

As the Director of Professional Coding, you will be responsible for leading the operations and compliance of the professional coding team and functions. This role requires a strong understanding of coding policies, guidelines, and procedures, as well as the ability to implement and maintain them.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct oversight of daily operations, including management of coding leadership and staff.
  • Implement coding policies, guidelines, and procedures, and identify growth opportunities.
  • Ensure the Revenue Cycle goals, objectives, and vision are achieved, and oversee coding workload and staffing plans to ensure appropriate distribution of work, accuracy, and timeliness.
  • Maintain an understanding of governmental regulatory changes within the industry, local markets, etc., and update, modify, or change coding and charge capture policies, procedures, set-up, or processes to ensure compliance with these regulations.
  • Collaborate with corporate responsibility to ensure compliance with all federal and state regulations.
  • Work collaboratively with other departments and system ministries to improve coding efficiency, quality, clinical documentation, productivity, service excellence, and appropriate reimbursement for services.
  • Monitor and justify all expenditures exceeding budgeted targets, and seek innovative ways to reduce operating expenses and develop the necessary programs to deliver cost-effective services and products.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for the organization on coding/charging functions, and interact regularly with coders, physicians, quality, compliance, and other healthcare practitioners to ensure common understanding of coding and documentation guidelines/principles, as well as government and commercial payer rules and regulations.
  • Work collaboratively with other departments to share feedback and ensure high-functioning revenue cycle processes.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in business, healthcare, or a related field, or equivalent years of experience and education.
  • Seven years' experience, with five years' in direct people management/leadership.
  • ProFee experience strongly preferred.
  • Required Professional License and/or Certification: Certified Coding Associate (CCA) - American Health Information Management Assoc (AHIMA), Certified Coding Specialist - Physician-based (CCS-P) - American Health Information Management Assoc (AHIMA), Certified Outpatient Coder (COC) - American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC), Certified Professional Coder (CPC) - American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) - American Health Information Management Assoc (AHIMA), or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) - American Health Information Management Assoc (AHIMA).
