Job Title: Director of KARM Works

Knox Area Rescue Ministries (KARM) is seeking a highly motivated and experienced professional to lead our KARMWorks program as the Director of KARM Works. This is a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the lives of individuals experiencing homelessness and utilizing emergency services at KARM.

Job Summary:

The Director of KARM Works will be responsible for launching a pilot construction trades program within a year, managing existing trainings in commercial cleaning and culinary arts, and overseeing all student workforce development at KARM. This role requires a strong leader who can develop and implement curriculum, program models, and job development strategies, while ensuring quality instruction and student success.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement a program participant recruitment strategy to attract and engage individuals in the KARMWorks program.
  • Lead the evaluation of student knowledge and skills in construction, and develop project-based curriculum that includes construction.
  • Ensure quality instruction of construction skills, including demolition, rough framing, roofing, drywall, finish carpentry, sheet metal, electrical, plumbing, painting, and masonry.
  • Coordinate and supervise daily operations of the KARMWorks program, including education, construction, life skills, job placement, leadership, and case management components.
  • Provide oversight of on-site construction training, ensuring trainees receive consistent and adequate skills training, and promoting work-site safety and proper construction techniques.
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with education entities, non-profit agencies, faith-based agencies, private-sector businesses, and other stakeholders to provide career opportunities aligned with KARMWorks students' interests and goals.
  • Ensure trainees are prepared for job interviews, conduct follow-up assessments, and connect trainees with viable job opportunities.
  • Work closely with employers of students to maximize student employment retention and success.
Requirements:
  • 3-5 years of experience in leadership, job development, construction trades, or workforce development.
  • Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent Experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with peers and management toward the accomplishment of KARM's Mission Statement and Core Values.
  • Experience with and skilled in leading and coaching others; experience working with volunteers a plus.
  • Ability to set and monitor goals for and with individuals.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with individuals dealing with various forms of trauma.
  • Ability to effectively adapt to change.
  • Good organizational and administrative skills.
  • Ability to build personal relationships and maintain appropriate boundaries with guests.
Working Conditions:
  • Potential high-risk environment at KARM maintained property.
  • Working daily with individuals having medical, mental health, and/or addictive behaviors.
  • Some local travel may be required for various purposes.
  • Occasional required attendance at KARM special events, sometimes during weekend or evening hours.
