Position Overview

The Financial Accountant II plays a crucial role in managing the general ledger for multiple libraries, overseeing special funds and grants, and executing month-end closing procedures for various accounts. This position is also responsible for filing payroll tax returns for a number of member libraries and conducting regular audits to ensure financial accuracy in preparation for both internal and external reviews. The role is essential for providing timely and precise financial reporting to member libraries.

Background Checks
All library positions necessitate the completion of criminal background and child abuse clearances.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Oversee the General Ledger, special funds, and grants for multiple libraries.
  • Conduct regular audits to ensure financial accuracy and prepare for audits.
  • Manage cash transfers for disbursement and payroll accounts.
  • Prepare and review journal entries and inter-fund transfers.
  • Generate comprehensive financial statements.
  • Reconcile bank and credit card statements, addressing any discrepancies.
  • Analyze accounts for accuracy and implement necessary adjustments.
  • Complete financial portions of State Aid Annual Reports as assigned.
  • Create new funds and accounts as required.
  • Coordinate workflow within the department to facilitate month-end and year-end closings.
  • Prepare bi-weekly payroll submissions and associated journal entries.
  • Monitor tax withholding payments to ensure compliance.
  • Train new library directors and department heads on accounting systems.
  • Prepare documentation for year-end audits.
  • Assist the Manager with various tasks as needed.
  • Perform additional duties and special projects as required.
Qualifications and Preferred Skills
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting from an accredited institution.
  • Two years of experience in governmental or fund accounting.
  • Familiarity with automated accounting systems.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in sensitive matters.
  • Proficient with modern office equipment.
  • Strong judgment and integrity.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Knowledge of budgets and audit processes.
  • Criminal background check and child abuse clearance required.
Additional Information

Computer Skills:
To excel in this role, candidates should possess:
  • Intermediate skills in MS Office and Outlook.
  • Basic internet research skills.
  • Ability to learn accounting software.
Physical Demands:
The employee will primarily work at a computer and may occasionally need to stand, walk, or reach.

Work Environment:
The work environment is typically quiet, with most tasks performed indoors.
