Position Overview:
This role is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement, allowing for both onsite and remote work. The candidate must reside within one of the designated regions in North Carolina.

The individual will be accountable for ensuring that EmergeOrtho adheres to all applicable laws, regulations, and standards. This includes proactively assessing risks, providing comprehensive corporate legal advice, and managing the company's compliance initiatives.

Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, this full-time management role will oversee all legal affairs for the organization and direct the state-wide compliance program.

Key Responsibilities:
The Chief Legal Officer will oversee the company's legal transactions, including the review and negotiation of contracts. They will provide guidance on healthcare regulatory issues, compliance matters, and employment law, as well as manage all aspects of HIPAA privacy and security.

This position will collaborate with healthcare providers and staff across various departments to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations.

The Chief Legal Officer will also ensure that practitioners and staff are well-informed about the requirements for documenting, coding, and billing medical services in a complex regulatory landscape.

Additionally, this role involves investigating, auditing, and recommending corrective actions for compliance inquiries, HIPAA complaints, or violations.


Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor degree and a valid North Carolina bar license.
- At least 7 years of experience in healthcare regulatory, compliance, or transactional law.
- In-depth knowledge of federal, state, and local laws affecting healthcare organizations.
- Experience in health law, compliance investigations, and healthcare privacy regulations.
- Previous experience in a law firm or in-house legal department is preferred.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, including the capacity to manage large data sets.
- Proven ability to exercise initiative and make decisions in a fast-paced environment.

Skills:
- Exceptional analytical skills with the ability to gather and interpret complex information.
- Experience working with healthcare professionals is advantageous.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and PowerPoint.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills across various formats.
- High level of professionalism in work ethic and demeanor.

Responsibilities Include:
- Providing high-quality legal and business counsel to organizational leaders and healthcare providers.
- Leading legal and compliance initiatives within the company.
- Ensuring the education and implementation of relevant regulations, collaborating with healthcare providers.
- Overseeing the execution of compliance program elements and assisting in policy development.
- Planning and managing internal audits, preparing reports, and documenting findings.
- Analyzing compliance data and identifying trends to inform leadership decisions.

The Chief Legal Officer will also review and approve legal documents related to the organization's operations and maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive information.
