Job Summary

The State of Vermont is seeking a skilled Transportation Operations Technician II to join our team. This role is responsible for performing various tasks related to highway maintenance, including repairing guardrails, cutting trees/brush, patching roads, picking litter, ditching, and more. In the winter months, this position will also assist with plowing and salting, and overtime may be required. Additionally, this role may involve assisting in vehicle and equipment maintenance.

The ideal candidate will have one year of work experience in construction, equipment operation, or related manual labor, including either one season of operating a snowplow with wings or six months of operating medium or heavy equipment, such as graders, excavators, and backhoes. A Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is required, and possession of a Class A CDL with Tanker Endorsement is required within the first six months of employment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform various tasks related to highway maintenance, including repairing guardrails, cutting trees/brush, patching roads, picking litter, ditching, and more.
  • Assist with plowing and salting in the winter months, and be available for considerable overtime during heavy snowfall or other emergencies.
  • Assist in vehicle and equipment maintenance, including the use of tools and lifting materials commonly used in maintenance work.
  • Participate in a random drug and alcohol-testing program, and be reachable by phone for emergency situations.
Requirements
  • One year of work experience in construction, equipment operation, or related manual labor.
  • Either one season of operating a snowplow with wings or six months of operating medium or heavy equipment, such as graders, excavators, and backhoes.
  • A Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is required.
  • Possession of a Class A CDL with Tanker Endorsement is required within the first six months of employment.
