The role of Performance Engineer is esteemed as one of the premier technical positions within the organization. This role will concentrate on the performance of the Hydraulic Mining Shovels product line, encompassing diesel and AC-powered shovels across legacy, current, and future models. You will act as a consultant and technical authority on projects that significantly impact Caterpillar's core technologies. Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential, as you will engage in discussions ranging from operational and technical matters to presentations for dealers and executives. Your influence will extend to machine concepts and product line strategies, playing a pivotal role in enhancing how the HMS product line delivers value through performance and efficiency improvements in primary loading tools used in mining operations. Alongside demonstrating a deep understanding of engineering principles, you will be expected to lead projects and initiatives to successful completion.

Key Responsibilities:

+ Collaborate with Virtual Product Development (VPD) engineers to create and implement processes, tools, and technologies for performance simulations and analyses.

+ Define technical and performance specifications for new products utilizing VPD simulations and analyses. Engage with both internal and external stakeholders to secure approval for essential requirements and specifications, ensuring they are communicated effectively to system teams.

+ Develop comprehensive performance acceptance criteria for products; work closely with hydraulic system, powertrain, engine, and undercarriage engineers to utilize VPD tools for feasibility analyses on key components and recommend optimal paths forward.

+ Assist machine technical leads with VPD results to inform decision-making; enhance current product quality through data analysis and comparison of results.

+ Support sales and service teams by ensuring data integrity in the Value Simulation Tool (VST) and other marketing materials; ensure on-site productivity studies yield both technical and commercial benefits; collect and analyze competitive machine data to maintain Caterpillar HMS's performance and productivity edge.

+ Manage the HMS Application Profile and Composite Workcycle; utilize telematics data to refine and inform duty cycle information as part of the design process.

+ Oversee machine responses to events and diagnostics.

Required Skills:

Technical Expertise: Strong leadership capabilities with extensive experience in the performance and application of mining shovels or excavators. Profound understanding of complex engineering concepts, electro-hydraulic system design, and control theory.

Analytical Skills: Proficient in techniques and tools that facilitate effective analysis; ability to identify root causes of performance issues and develop alternative solutions.

Problem-Solving Abilities: Knowledge of methodologies for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving operational or process challenges; ability to apply problem-solving knowledge to diverse scenarios.

Communication Skills: Strong leadership, project management, and business management capabilities. Direct collaboration with internal partners, suppliers, customers, and dealers necessitates proficiency in negotiation and consensus-building.

Attention to Detail: Recognizing the importance of accuracy; ability to execute tasks with high precision.

Preferred Qualifications:

Project Management: Familiarity with effective project management strategies; ability to plan, organize, monitor, and control projects to optimize resource utilization and achieve objectives.

Engineering Tools: Knowledge of specialized engineering programs; ability to produce, analyze, simulate, and test design concepts using tools such as DYNASTY and C-Link.

Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in an accredited Engineering, Computer Science, or Materials Science program.
