Senior Director of Advocacy and Policy

Impact for Equity, a leading public interest law and policy center, seeks a highly skilled and experienced Managing Director of Advocacy to lead our advocacy efforts and drive transformational change in the Chicago region.
About the RoleThe Managing Director of Advocacy will be responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive advocacy strategy that integrates policy, advocacy, and community-centered organizing to advance racial, economic, and social justice. This includes leading an innovative and effective advocacy team, working with program directors and staff to execute high-impact advocacy, and fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement a comprehensive advocacy strategy that integrates policy, advocacy, and community-centered organizing to advance racial, economic, and social justice.
- Lead an innovative and effective advocacy team, including hiring, supervising, mentoring, and training staff.
- Work with program directors and staff to execute high-impact advocacy, including policy development, legislative advocacy, litigation, education, convening, and other relevant strategies.
- Foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment, including building strong relationships with community-based organizations, movement partners, allies, stakeholders, and government officials.
- Represent Impact for Equity in meetings with policymakers, community members, and other stakeholders, and serve as a spokesperson with the media and at other public speaking engagements.
- Develop and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with leaders and organizations in the field, including community-based organizations, movement partners, allies, stakeholders, and government officials.
- 10+ years of experience in public interest law and/or policy, with a proven history of creative and high-impact advocacy and demonstrated leadership.
- Experience in litigation, community organizing, communications, and legislative advocacy, with a strong understanding of policy development and implementation.
- Strong strategic leadership skills, with the ability to contribute to organization-wide agendas and set priorities.
- Outstanding writing and communication skills, including oral advocacy, legal and policy writing, and producing information for publication and media engagement.
- Management experience, including hiring, supervising, mentoring, and training staff, with a focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Ability to work successfully individually and in teams to advance mission-centered priorities in a lean, highly collaborative, high-volume, and entrepreneurial environment.
- Experience engaging in creative problem-solving and taking initiative, with a solutions-oriented approach and flexibility.
- Demonstrated commitment to the Impact for Equity values of equity, inclusion, and shared power.
Impact for Equity offers a competitive salary range of $140,000-$150,000, commensurate with experience, and a comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, and vision insurance, a 403(b) retirement plan, holiday, vacation, and sick PTO, a cell phone benefit, and a hybrid work schedule.
