Job Summary

This is a hybrid role that combines office and field work, offering a unique opportunity to explore the best of both worlds. As a DER Planning Engineer, you will work with complex systems and equipment, providing engineering and technical services to support our growing organization.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the development of the distribution system power flow model for studying the interconnection of DERs.
  • Assess and analyze proposed solutions associated with the integration of DER and its impact on the ISO-NE regional system.
  • Prepare documentation for the ISO-NE interconnection process as needed.
  • Develop design solutions and alternatives to mitigate identified assessment criteria violations.
  • Interface and work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to determine planning needs and proposed plans.
  • Conduct assessments and develop interconnection options or alternative solutions.
  • Apply industry and corporate distribution planning standards in conjunction with regulations of Federal, State, and Local regulatory authorities.
  • Represent the department and the company on various industry-related committees.
  • Participate with other utilities and the planning staff of the Independent System Operator (ISO) in the preparation of regional distribution and substation expansion studies.
  • Assist with preparing PAFs and TAFs and present at monthly meetings.
  • Assist with preparation of high-level construction estimates.
  • Serve as a team leader on specialized internal and external cross-functional teams to develop engineering solutions and customer satisfaction.
  • Manage approved inverter list and review UL certifications.
  • Prepare Special Operating Guidelines.
  • Train interns in technical analyses and procedures.
  • Perform storm assignments as needed.
Requirements
  • Strong understanding of electrical engineering concepts such as power generation, energy storage, reliability, load flow, flicker, stability, short circuit, voltage regulation, transients, power factor, losses, etc.
  • Strong technical understanding of the parameters and functions used in the operation of the power delivery system as well as power industry fundamentals, practices, and standards.
  • Knowledge and experience using power system modeling and simulation software for steady-state power flow, voltage, short circuit, stability, and electromagnetic transients.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, presentation, negotiation, and persuasion skills both verbal and written.
  • Knowledge of STORMS, eGIS, Visio, and C2 knowledge is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Eversource tariffs and technical standards.
  • Follow Eversource's Codes of Conduct, Business Ethics, Environmental, and Diversity Policies.
Education and Experience
  • A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or related is required.
  • Zero to three years of related experience is required.
Working Conditions
  • Must be available to work emergency restoration assignments as required.
  • Must be available to travel between MA/CT/NH as necessary.
  • Depending on the specific nature of the engineering role, position may require occasional to significant travel by car. A valid driver's license is required.
Compensation and Benefits

Eversource offers a competitive total rewards program. The annual salary range for this position is $94,000 to $110,000, plus incentive. Salary is commensurate with your experience. Check out the career site for an overview of benefits.
