Job Summary

The Financial Operations Specialist will be a key member of the Lamar State College-Orange team, responsible for providing financial support and services to the institution. This role will involve reconciling investment statements, preparing periodic journal entries, and assisting with financial transactions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Reconcile investment statements and prepare periodic journal entries to record investment activity;
  • Prepare investment documentation for TSUS components monthly, quarterly, and annually;
  • Assist in preparing the Quarterly Investment Report for TSUS;
  • Review and approve travel vouchers and submit for payment;
  • Assist with TSUS financial transactions including vendor payments, employee reimbursements, and budget transactions;
  • Review finance-related documents to ensure compliance with applicable policy, regulations, and laws;
  • Prepare routine and ad-hoc finance-related statements, reports, schedules, and exhibits;
  • Assist in the preparation of the Annual Financial Report and other financial reports submitted to a variety of constituents;
  • Maintain complete and organized finance-related records in related areas;
  • Perform other duties necessary to support the efficient operation of the TSUS Business Shared Services Group;
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a closely related field;
  • Three (3) or more years of recent, progressively responsible professional experience in finance operations;
  • Investment accounting experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of professional standards, financial reporting, and accounting theory;
  • Working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;
  • Familiarity with NACUBO financial accounting and reporting guidelines;
  • Ability to think both creatively and analytically in resolving complex issues;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Ability to efficiently organize, prioritize, schedule, and manage work activities, tasks, and assignments;
  • Ability to work under deadlines and communicate information quickly and accurately;
  • Ability to handle complexity and work independently under general supervision with moderate latitude for the exercise of initiative and independent judgment;
  • Advanced skill using computer information systems and computer applications to input, retrieve, and manipulate financial information;
  • A focus on timely customer service.
