Position Overview

The Project Engineer - Building Envelope Specialist plays a crucial role in supporting Project Leaders throughout the lifecycle of various construction initiatives, encompassing both new developments and renovations of existing structures.

Key Responsibilities:

The Project Engineer will be tasked with the following:

  • Reviewing and generating design and construction documentation.
  • Conducting site observations during construction phases.
  • Ensuring quality assurance throughout the construction process.
  • Engaging in assessments of existing building envelopes and other structural systems, including but not limited to glazing, cladding, roofing, and waterproofing.
  • Investigating distress conditions in existing structures and preparing detailed technical reports.
  • Creating specifications and details for the repair of building systems.
  • Providing design support and consulting services for new construction projects, particularly in relation to building envelope systems, including material selection and detailing.
  • Documenting and effectively communicating field conditions to the Project Leader and team to aid in analysis and resolution of issues.
  • Managing project-related tasks, which include:
  • Completing reviews of preconstruction submittals and shop drawings.
  • Coordinating project scheduling and requirements.
  • Responding to Requests for Information (RFIs).
  • Reviewing payment application requests.
  • Participating in project meetings, often in a leadership capacity.
  • Inspecting ongoing construction activities.
  • Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders, including consultants, architects, owners, and contractors, to ensure successful project execution.
  • Carrying out project closeout activities, including the preparation of record drawings and punch list reports.
Qualifications:
  • A relevant bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Building Science, or Architectural Engineering is required.
  • Prior experience in construction, building envelope, roofing, or testing is required.
  • A minimum of 3 years of construction-related experience.
  • Familiarity with construction practices, terminology, materials, field investigation techniques, and the scientific principles related to building performance.
  • Strong writing skills for reports and business correspondence, along with effective presentation abilities.
  • Willingness to engage in both fieldwork and office tasks.
  • Interest in pursuing relevant certifications through ACI, ICRI, and/or IIBEC is advantageous.
