Job Overview

Summary: Utilize engineering principles and concepts acquired through formal education and practical experience. Oversee and execute project management and engineering responsibilities related to design, construction oversight, assessments, and investigations. Provide guidance to technicians and junior team members. Manage multiple projects concurrently, ensuring accuracy and compliance with state regulations while reviewing and approving project specifications. Proactively identify opportunities for improvement, conduct research, and recommend solutions to enhance operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop engineering documentation for construction initiatives. This involves gathering and analyzing field data, performing engineering calculations to establish design parameters, and identifying optimal solutions to address existing challenges within budget constraints. Ensure all calculations and project documents undergo quality assurance and quality control, while maintaining ultimate responsibility for accuracy.
  • Execute construction management tasks. Responsibilities include leading initial meetings with contractors to outline project objectives, obtaining and evaluating contractor pricing, and advising clients on project awards. Monitor construction activities to ensure compliance with engineered documents and collaborate with contractors to resolve any identified deficiencies. Assess, analyze, and implement solutions to conflicts that arise during project execution.
  • Conduct thorough assessments and investigations. This entails selecting appropriate methodologies, managing the assembly and operation of testing equipment, and overseeing the creation and repair of openings in roofing and wall systems. Document existing conditions and deficiencies, providing actionable recommendations for enhancements.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Knowledge:

  • Proficient understanding of materials and installation techniques used in roofing, wall, and other building envelope systems.
  • Solid grasp of building codes and engineering calculations, applying engineering judgment to real-world conditions.
  • Ability to interpret project specifications, submittals, and related documentation, identifying discrepancies between actual construction and project requirements, and effectively communicating these discrepancies in both verbal and written formats.
  • Competence in operating assessment and investigation equipment, including infrared cameras and water testing units, along with strong communication skills.
  • Proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English.
  • Familiarity with word processing, spreadsheet applications, and general computer skills.

Education and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering.
  • Professional Engineer license (NC).
  • Possession of or progress towards Registered Consultant certification.

Work Experience: A minimum of four years of professional engineering experience in a relevant field, ideally within a consulting or engineering firm. Relevant formal education or technical certifications may be considered in lieu of experience.

Physical and Environmental Requirements:

  • Ability to perform moderate lifting (up to 50 pounds).
  • Capability to stand or walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to climb ladders.
