Job Title: Chief Privacy Counsel

Cigna is seeking a highly skilled Chief Privacy Counsel to lead our Privacy Legal team and provide expert guidance on privacy, cybersecurity, and data governance matters.

About the Role:

The successful candidate will have a deep understanding of HIPAA, state and federal privacy laws, data use regulations, and breach notification requirements. They will be responsible for counseling the enterprise on information incidents and data breach response, negotiating privacy and security language in contracts, and supporting M&A efforts.

Responsibilities:
  • Counsel the enterprise on information incidents and data breach response
  • Negotiate privacy and security language in contracts
  • Support M&A efforts with data, cyber, and privacy expertise
  • Provide guidance on data de-identification and privacy notices
  • Develop and administer data, cyber, and privacy training
  • Work with Government Affairs on legislative and regulatory developments
  • Engage with regulators on data, cyber, and privacy issues
Qualifications:
  • Juris Doctor required
  • 10+ years regulatory compliance experience, with prior 8 focused on healthcare privacy
  • Deep understanding of HIPAA, state and federal privacy laws, data use regulations, and breach notification requirements
  • Experience assessing and mitigating legal risks associated with privacy and data governance, cybersecurity, data and digital transactions, and consumer experience
