Job Title: JEPIS Manager

Brown University is seeking a highly skilled and experienced JEPIS Manager to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the daily operations of the Joint Engineering and Physics Instrument Shop (JEPIS), including supervising current Instrument Makers/Machinists and maintaining a safe and efficient work environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage the daily operations of JEPIS, including supervising current Instrument Makers/Machinists
  • Maintain a safe and efficient work environment
  • Order and maintain stock
  • Keep shop floor organized, clean, and safe
  • Teach basic machining skills to students
  • Assist individuals with limited technical expertise in turning ideas and drawings into working parts
Requirements:
  • A minimum of ten years' experience as a machinist or equivalent training
  • A Class A toolmaker
  • Experience in assigning and following jobs to other machinists
  • Experience in the use of CNC equipment and software required for such instruments
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Supervisory experience
  • Operating an efficient, organized, and safe work environment
  • Estimating time required to do a job and quoting prices
  • Full knowledge of machining procedures and proper safe set-ups
  • Personnel skills to supervise and train other machinists and students
