Job Title: JEPIS Manager

The School of Engineering at Brown University is seeking a highly skilled and experienced JEPIS Manager to join our team. As a JEPIS Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Joint Engineering and Physics Instrument Shop (JEPIS), including supervising current Instrument Makers/Machinists and maintaining a safe and efficient work environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage the daily operations of JEPIS, including supervising current Instrument Makers/Machinists
  • Maintain a safe and efficient work environment
  • Order and maintain stock
  • Keep shop floor organized, clean, and safe
  • Responsible for maintaining a safe student shop where students are taught basic machining skills
Requirements:
  • A minimum of ten years' experience as a machinist or equivalent training
  • A Class A toolmaker
  • Experience in assigning and following jobs to other machinists
  • Experience in the use of CNC equipment and use of software required for such instruments
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Supervisory experience
  • Operating an efficient, organized, and safe work environment
  • Experience estimating time required to do a job and quote prices as to what a job will cost
  • A Class A toolmaker and machinist with hands-on experience with CNC machining
