About the Role
This position is tasked with spearheading the design, development, and evaluation of intricate electro-mechanical components, systems, and equipment, covering both new and existing products.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead design initiatives for product development within Leviton's Residential Business Units.
- Identify, develop, and deliver innovative solutions aligned with product development strategies and requirements.
- Oversee the creation of specifications, designs, and testing methodologies for new products.
- Complete the design, analysis, and development of mechanical components and systems, including detailed documentation from concept to manufacturing release.
- Provide competitive analysis through benchmarking and research.
- Mentor and train fellow engineers, collaborating with manufacturing throughout the development phases to ensure product manufacturability and design integrity.
- Investigate new development technologies, making recommendations to management and supervising their implementation.
- Develop multiple design concepts and work with Document Control to create comprehensive documentation packages, including 2-D drawings and Bills of Materials.
- Ensure product quality by designing testing protocols; validate fabrication, assembly, and installation processes; generate and execute testing and validation plans.
- Analyze existing designs for potential improvements and troubleshoot issues.
- Research various mechanical engineering challenges related to parts and processes.
- Confirm that design and project goals meet both customer and company standards.

Qualifications
- Proficient in applying FEA, FMEA, and customer feedback to product design and development.
- Strong leadership and management capabilities, particularly in overseeing external design resources, including budget and timeline management.
- In-depth knowledge of advanced drafting terminology and symbols (GD&T).

Well-versed in the design, prototyping, and evaluation of materials such as injection molded plastics, metal stampings, die castings, and sheet metal fabrication. A solution-oriented mindset with creative thinking to design and develop complex mechanical systems is essential.

Ability to effectively communicate ideas and knowledge across teams, both verbally and in writing. Capable of exercising independent judgment with minimal guidance and utilizing engineering economic analysis for decision-making.

Education & Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering required; Master's preferred.
- Over 10 years of mechanical engineering experience.
- Extensive experience in design concepts and manufacturing processes, particularly in high-volume automated environments.
- Experience in consumer products or electro-mechanical device design.
- Advanced proficiency in 3D CAD and drafting software; SolidWorks preferred.
- Familiarity with structured Phase Gate product development processes.
- Knowledge of regulatory compliance and validation testing methods is a plus.
