Job Overview

Position Title: MOT Specialists/Helpers

Objective:

The role involves executing various Traffic Control Setups in accordance with the FDOT index, focusing on roadways, highways, and substantial construction initiatives under the supervision of a crew foreman.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Establish, maintain, and clear work sites, including the construction and dismantling of scaffolding, as well as the placement of barricades and equipment.
  • Direct traffic at construction sites.
  • Implement lane closures and detours as required.
  • Arrange barrels and cones on-site.
  • Monitor traffic flow and MOT devices throughout the work area.
  • Ensure proper maintenance of traffic devices post-setup.
  • Load and unload MOT signs, devices, and drums.
  • Guide traffic near construction zones and perform other traffic management tasks.
  • Signal construction equipment operators to assist in the alignment and movement of materials.
  • Measure, mark, or document openings or distances as part of site preparation.
  • Maintain a tidy work environment by properly disposing of waste and debris.
  • Conduct daily maintenance and safety inspections of equipment.
  • Promote and adhere to the company's safety protocols.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Proficient in operating various tools and equipment, including hand tools, power tools, and motorized machinery.
  • Ability to listen, follow instructions, and a commitment to continuous skill enhancement.
  • Effective communication skills with supervisors and co-workers.
  • Basic understanding of road construction procedures.
  • Exhibit a safety-first mindset with strict compliance to safety regulations.
  • Maintain a professional and courteous demeanor towards colleagues, supervisors, and the public.
  • Willingness to work nights and weekends as necessary.
  • Reliable transportation and the ability to travel to assigned job sites.

Physical Requirements:

  • Consistent physical activity, including prolonged standing for at least an 8-hour shift.
  • Intermittent sitting; continuous walking on construction sites.
  • Occasional climbing.
  • Ability to twist, bend, stoop, kneel, and crouch as needed.
  • Occasional reaching above shoulder height.
  • May regularly lift and carry small items weighing under 10 pounds.

Demonstrated agility, balance, and manual dexterity, along with steady hand-eye coordination.

  • Able to hear and respond to verbal instructions in a noisy environment.
  • Regular use of hands and fingers to handle, feel, or operate tools and controls; reach and grasp as needed.
  • Good vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Education and Experience:

  • High School diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Experience as an MOT Flagger or similar labor experience.
  • Valid Driver's license.

Work Environment:

Regularly exposed to outdoor weather conditions, including extreme heat and humidity. Frequently works near moving machinery and is often subjected to wet or humid conditions and vibrations. The noise level in the work environment typically ranges from moderate to loud. Handles various hazardous materials such as epoxies, grouts, sealers, paints, and cleaners, with potential exposure to fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and electrical hazards.
