The Community Safety Deputy is responsible for safeguarding the lives and property of residents within Williams County. This role encompasses a variety of law enforcement responsibilities, including monitoring designated areas, enforcing regulations, apprehending offenders, and responding to assistance requests.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensures the safety and security of the community through law enforcement, patrol duties, civil process service, investigations, and other assigned tasks.
- Conducts patrols in designated areas, identifying illegal, hazardous, or suspicious activities and individuals; provides backup support, scene security, and protection for emergency services personnel.
- Implements local, state, and federal laws while adhering to established policies and procedures.
- Performs traffic stops and investigates accidents; assists victims and witnesses, and addresses safety concerns.
- Responds to both emergency and non-emergency service calls; communicates with victims, witnesses, and suspects; secures crime scenes and gathers evidence.
- Apprehends law violators; pursues and detains suspects; processes and transports detainees; provides testimony in court; executes arrest and search warrants.
- Collaborates with other Sheriff's Office personnel, county departments, and various law enforcement agencies as necessary.
- As required, serves civil process documents, warrants, legal notices, and subpoenas.
- Engages in community policing initiatives to prevent crime, alleviate fear, and enhance community relations; interacts with local business owners and residents to address safety concerns.
- Completes detailed reports and necessary administrative paperwork.
- Maintains patrol vehicles and equipment in optimal working condition.
- May conduct educational programs through community outreach and school initiatives; provides guidance on law enforcement activities and available resources.
- Upholds the integrity, professionalism, and ethical standards of the Sheriff's Office by ensuring compliance with all regulations.
- Maintains confidentiality of sensitive records while making public information accessible as mandated by law.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent with a minimum of one year of relevant work experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Must meet and maintain licensing requirements set by the North Dakota Peace Officer Standards and Training Board.
- Possession of a valid North Dakota Driver's License or equivalent is required.
- Successful completion of a thorough background check and pre-employment drug and alcohol screening is mandatory.
- Technical certifications in CPR, First Aid, and specialized equipment are essential.
Work Environment
- Work is conducted in various environments, exposing the individual to inclement weather and fluctuating temperatures; may encounter physical risks such as dangerous vehicles, gunfire, and physical confrontations; potential exposure to hazardous substances and infectious diseases.
- Must maintain physical fitness to meet departmental standards; may be required to physically restrain individuals.
- Must be available to work in uniform during weekdays, weekends, and holidays across various shifts.
Compensation and Benefits
Starting pay is $31.00/hour, subject to variation based on qualifications, experience, and training.
