About This Role:

The Department of Applied Human Sciences, part of the College of Health and Human Sciences, is seeking a Culinary Services Supervisor to enhance their team at the Center for Child Development (CCD). This role is pivotal in managing a streamlined and economically viable food service program, adhering to state regulations, national standards, and CACFP guidelines. The Culinary Services Supervisor will create nutritious menus that comply with CACFP criteria, oversee the food service budget, and ensure adherence to sanitation and food safety protocols. This position reports directly to the CCD Director.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design menus in accordance with current FDA guidelines for the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) to ensure eligibility for meal reimbursements.
  • Create nutritious meal plans that satisfy CACFP meal patterns for various age groups, including school-aged children, preschoolers, toddlers, and infants, along with alternative menus for children with dietary restrictions.
  • Maintain organized records and documentation of all necessary forms, payments, income, menus, newsletters, and other required documents for the state CACFP program.
  • Participate in CACFP training as necessary to meet program requirements.
  • Supervise and train student kitchen aides to ensure the kitchen operates efficiently, remains clean, and that food is handled safely and delivered promptly to classrooms.
  • Manage the preparation of meal alternatives for children with allergies or specific dietary needs.
  • Develop and provide training for teaching staff on topics such as family-style dining, infant nutrition, and special dietary needs.

  • Experience in writing newsletters or articles.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Able to work under pressure and manage distractions.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to interpret and apply relevant laws, regulations, and departmental policies.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse population.
