Job Summary

Columbia University seeks a highly skilled and dedicated Faculty Development and Diversity Program Specialist to join its team. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in advancing the Department of Medicine's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Key Responsibilities

  • Diversity and Inclusion Initiatives
    • Develop and implement comprehensive strategies to increase the representation of underrepresented minorities within the faculty.
    • Collaborate with department leadership to create a welcoming and inclusive environment for all faculty members.
    • Coordinate diversity and inclusion initiatives, including workshops, seminars, and cultural events.
    • Track and analyze diversity metrics to assess progress and identify areas for improvement.
    • Develop and maintain relationships with external organizations focused on diversity and inclusion in academia.
  • Faculty Development
    • Provide administrative support for faculty development programs, including mentoring, leadership development, and career advancement initiatives.
    • Coordinate logistics for faculty development events and workshops.
    • Assist in the development and implementation of faculty evaluation and promotion processes.
    • Maintain accurate records and documentation related to faculty development activities.
  • General Administrative Support
    • Provide general administrative support to the Vice Chair for Faculty Development, Diversity and Inclusion and the Assistant Director, Faculty Promotions and Faculty Development Programs.
    • Manage calendars, schedule meetings, and prepare correspondence.
    • Prepare reports and presentations as needed.
    • Perform other duties as assigned or requested.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., human resources, education, or social sciences), or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience, three years of progressive administrative experience, preferably in a higher education or healthcare setting.
  • Master's degree in a related field (e.g., higher education administration, public policy) would substitute for experience.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with diversity and inclusion initiatives.
  • Knowledge of faculty development principles and practices.
  • Experience with data analysis and reporting.
  • Bilingual or multilingual skills.
