About the Role

The City of New York is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Executive Director for Strategy and HR Innovation to join our team. This is a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the lives of New Yorkers by providing strategic guidance and support to our Chief People Officer.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure seamless information flow into and out of the CPO's office, including emails, phone calls, memos, meeting agendas, and minutes.
  • Manage the flow of information to get the right information in front of the right people in the most effective way.
  • Assist the CPO in maximizing time by focusing on areas where they add the most value, including sharing the organizational vision, long-term strategic planning, mentoring the leadership team, and engaging with employees at every level to build morale and alignment.
  • Protect the schedule of the CPO and minimize time spent on activities outside of those deemed most critical.
  • Serve as the gatekeeper of the CPO's schedule, doing the upfront legwork to ensure the CPO is prepped ahead of each engagement.
  • Facilitate the strategic planning process by scheduling all pertinent discussions, working with subject matter experts to compile the necessary data and research ahead of time, and documenting all key outputs.
  • Develop implementation and communication cadence of quarterly, monthly, and weekly meetings for the CPO and leadership team, track all goals, KPIs, and the progress of key initiatives, as well as any agreed-upon shifts in strategy or direction.
  • Collaborate with the leadership team ahead of these meetings to ensure all necessary pre-work has been completed and the appropriate data is available to create a positive, engaged discussion.
  • Facilitate project management meetings and take responsibility to circulate and track all next actions, allowing the CPO to participate fully in the discussions without focusing on the structure or flow.
Requirements
  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university and four years of progressively responsible experience in a large governmental agency, business firm, civic or community organization operating in the area of social services, including one year at the administrative or managerial level.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to chair and co-chair staff meetings and interunit partnership meetings.
  • Demonstrated skill and comfort in proactively building relationships and demonstrating influence with staff at all organizational levels.
  • Excellent analytical skills.
  • Knowledge of civil service rules and regulations, and human resources policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Ability to effectively multitask and manage competing priorities/projects, determine the priority level of various deliverables, and continuously reprioritize workload based on emerging needs.
