Position Summary:
Draper is in search of a Lead Aerodynamic and Hydrodynamic Systems Engineer to spearhead the design and advancement of innovative solutions tailored to client-driven challenges related to ruggedized miniature electro-mechanical systems, systems designed for extreme environments (such as high-g, high temperature, high pressure, and high vibration), as well as robotics and autonomous systems with an emphasis on aerodynamic and hydrodynamic efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
• Conduct analytical modeling and computational fluid dynamics analysis of intricate electro-mechanical systems, focusing on aerodynamic and hydrodynamic performance.
• Execute system-level trade studies (size, weight, and power), balancing propulsion/energetics, performance (including aero/hydro), structural design/materials, payload capacity, mission timelines/speed, and cost.
• Provide insights and recommend design modifications based on analytical outcomes, applying analysis techniques across various technical disciplines.
• Tackle complex challenges with minimal guidance, contributing to requirements development, proposing actionable solutions, and adapting to evolving requirements.
• Effectively communicate task results with multidisciplinary program teams, senior management, and stakeholders (both technical and non-technical).
• Mentor and support new or less experienced engineers, offering constructive feedback when necessary.
• Identify technical risks at the program/system level and formulate and implement mitigation strategies.
• Uphold best practices and strive for operational improvements; demonstrate strong organizational, planning, and time management skills to meet program objectives.
Qualifications:
• A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field is required; a Master's degree is preferred.
• 7-10 years of engineering experience with a Bachelor's degree or 5-7 years with a Master's degree.
Additional Information:
• Candidates selected for this role will need to obtain and maintain a government security clearance, with an active Secret clearance preferred.
