Mary Washington Healthcare is in search of a Nurse Practitioner specializing in Cardiology.

Position Overview

The Nurse Practitioner plays a crucial role in delivering clinical services to patients within both inpatient and outpatient environments. This role involves active participation in patient care, education, and the development of specific policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with physicians to provide comprehensive counseling to patients and their families regarding diagnoses, testing, and procedural risks.
  • Conduct thorough health assessments to diagnose and treat patients effectively.
  • Develop tailored treatment plans that include appropriate diagnostics and interventions, focusing on maximizing patient health potential.
  • Educate patients and families about their health conditions and coordinate referrals to other healthcare professionals as needed.
  • Order and interpret diagnostic studies while prescribing therapies within the defined scope of practice.
  • Utilize strong organizational and decision-making skills to manage patient care efficiently.
  • Provide emergency interventions in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Adhere to all regulatory requirements and practice agreements with supervising physicians.
Clinical Privileges
  • Document and manage medical histories and physical examinations.
  • Perform daily patient rounds and manage routine medical orders.
  • Prepare patients for discharge and manage transfer summaries.
  • Evaluate patients requiring specialized cardiology consultations.
Clinical Procedures
  • Change dressings and remove sutures as necessary.
  • Perform venipunctures and insert IVs.
Communication Duties
  • Educate patients and families on disease management, medications, and post-discharge care.
  • Facilitate communication between patients and healthcare providers.
  • Manage phone communications for patient inquiries and consultations.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Maintain statistical records and complete necessary documentation.
  • Assist with insurance and home health forms.
  • Provide training on medical devices and special equipment.
Qualifications
  • Must be a Registered Nurse licensed in Virginia or eligible.
  • Master's degree in Nursing is required.
  • Current certification as an Adult Nurse Practitioner in Virginia is essential.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is mandatory.
  • Preferred: Recent experience in adult medical-surgical settings.
  • Ability to perform effectively in high-pressure situations.
  • Strong leadership and teamwork skills are essential.
