Job Title: Water Reclamation Plant Manager

In this role, you will be tasked with the comprehensive oversight of the operational and maintenance aspects of a water reclamation facility and its associated pumping stations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversees the sewage treatment process, including wastewater collection, pumping, and sludge management.
  • Manages the upkeep and operation of intercepting sewers and control mechanisms.
  • Supervises the biosolids and composting initiatives, along with the Waterways Control Section, canal operations, and water quality assessments.
  • Coordinates the preparation of contracts and the maintenance of plant infrastructure and equipment.
  • Reviews operational documentation, implements efficiency changes, and compiles detailed reports.
  • Approves maintenance work orders and organizes plant and system upkeep.
  • Plans for repair and construction initiatives, evaluates plans, and supervises technical evaluations.
  • Assumes the responsibilities of the plant manager as necessary and engages in strategic planning.
  • Directs budget formulation and oversees personnel, ensuring adherence to policies and addressing any grievances.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Approves requisitions for equipment purchases and engages with the public and external agencies.
  • Assists the plant manager with both technical and administrative tasks as needed.
  • Performs any other assigned duties as required.

Desirable Skills and Qualifications:

  • In-depth understanding of wastewater engineering principles and methodologies.
  • Familiarity with diverse mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems utilized in wastewater processing.
  • Strong leadership and administrative capabilities.
  • Ability to conduct thorough technical assessments of repair and construction activities.

Requirements:

  • Professional Engineer registration in the State of Illinois.
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering with a minimum of 8 years of experience in wastewater treatment, including at least 4 years in a supervisory role.

Substitution:

Full-time graduate studies in engineering may substitute for specialized experience for up to 2 years.

Promotional Requirement:

  • A minimum of 1 year of service as a Principal Engineer with the District or a related bachelor's degree.
  • Civil Service status in relevant engineering classifications.
