Job Summary

We are seeking a highly qualified Postdoctoral Research Associate to join our team at the Idaho National Laboratory. The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, or a related field and will be responsible for conducting research on the reprocessing of tristructural isotropic (TRISO) particle fuel for molten salt reactor (MSR) technology.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct research on the degradation of TRISO particles in molten salt systems using advanced characterization techniques such as scanning electron microscopy (SEM), focused ion beam (FIB) microscopy, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), x-ray diffraction (XRD), x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and optical spectroscopy.
  • Develop and implement new projects at the INL related to surface damage of nuclear reactor structural materials and fuels for both fission and fusion applications.
  • Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team to achieve project goals and milestones.
  • Contribute to the development of a sustainable life cycle for TRISO fuel.
  • Support INL leadership in meeting Department of Energy and industry expectations.
Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with advanced characterization techniques.
  • Developing a good publication record in relevant field of research.
  • Demonstrated oral and published written communication skills.
