Job Summary

The Waste Characterization Specialist will be responsible for managing the radioactive material program, including development, improvement, and tracking. This role will also involve waste management process support, including characterization and coordination. The successful candidate will have a strong background in mathematical calculations and complex data sets, as well as experience in nuclear research and development, nuclear or radiological facility operations or management, or reactor plant operations or management.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement environmental policies to ensure compliance with Department of Energy Orders, Federal and State regulations, and various standards.
  • Manage the radioactive material program, including development, improvement, and tracking.
  • Support waste management process, including characterization and coordination.
  • Conduct operations program activities, including procedure development, contractor assurance activities, and potential readiness reviews.
  • Present to and partner with Federal and State regulators and ISO-14001 auditors for all environmental inspections and respond to identified areas of concerns and non-compliances.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree and 5-9 years relevant experience, OR Masters degree and 2-6 years relevant experience, Doctorate and 2-4 years relevant experience; OR 11-15 years relevant experience and actively pursuing a degree.
  • Experience in nuclear research and development, nuclear or radiological facility operations or management, or reactor plant operations or management in Department of Energy, NRC, university, or similar settings.
  • Strong background in mathematical calculations and complex data sets.
  • Willingness to track valuable and high consequence items.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Radiological Worker I or II qualification.
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy 'L' clearance, which requires US Citizenship.
