We are looking for a skilled and committed Animal Care Technician to support our operations at Compunnel Inc. In this position, you will be responsible for essential animal husbandry and health management in accordance with established experimental protocols and regulatory guidelines, including the Animal Welfare Act, NIH standards, and AAALAC accreditation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver thorough care for animals, which includes feeding, hydration, enrichment, and health evaluations. Maintain animal enclosures, feeding systems, hydration systems, and handling tools. Record all care and preventive health measures in line with regulations and protocols.
  • Assist in scientific procedures as outlined in study protocols, which may involve administering experimental treatments and performing clinical observations. Conduct and document clinical research sample collection and necropsies under supervision.
  • Ensure the cleanliness and sanitation of animal housing and equipment. Carry out biosecurity tasks such as sanitation of water systems and environmental assessments.
  • Possibly oversee junior staff members and act as a representative on committees or working groups as required. Provide guidance and support under the direction of the Site Veterinarian or Group/Team Leader.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Ability to operate in various environmental conditions, including extreme temperatures and humidity. Capable of lifting up to 70 pounds occasionally and up to 50 pounds frequently.
  • Experience in animal husbandry, clinical practices, and biosecurity measures. Knowledge of regulatory standards and AAALAC requirements is essential.
  • Exhibit persistence, attention to detail, and energy in a dynamic environment. Maintain a calm demeanor while handling livestock and during various procedures.
  • Strong collaborative skills and the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team. Must demonstrate sound judgment, analytical thinking, and a results-driven approach.
