Veterinary Research Technician

Sigma Inc is seeking a dedicated Veterinary Research Technician to ensure the daily care and management of various animal species while adhering to animal welfare standards.
Work schedule: Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 4:30 PM, totaling 40 hours per week.
Occasional weekend overtime may be required.
As positions open up, there is potential for this role to transition into a full-time opportunity.
Key Responsibilities
- Conducts animal husbandry and health management in compliance with experimental protocols and relevant animal welfare regulations, including the Animal Welfare Act and NIH guidelines.
- Assists in scientific procedures as per study protocols, maintains accurate documentation for all tasks, and ensures sanitation of equipment and facilities.
- Operates within an animal research laboratory environment under Biosafety Level 1 and 2 conditions.
- May mentor junior staff as directed by the Site Veterinarian or Team Leader and participate in site-specific committees.
- Contributes to the discovery and development of products aimed at improving patient and customer outcomes.
- Engages in international collaboration opportunities, enhancing visibility and impact within the organization.
- Supports a healthy workplace culture through initiatives focused on diversity, inclusion, and work-life balance.

- Adheres to all applicable regulations and company policies, documenting animal care and maintaining necessary records. Responsible for providing proper nutrition, hydration, and enrichment for animals, as well as maintaining and cleaning animal housing and equipment.
- Handles and restrains animals for routine and emergency procedures, recognizing signs of illness or distress and reporting these to the Site Veterinarian or Team Leader. Conducts daily assessments of animal health and welfare.
- Performs scientific observations and disease assessments, documenting all findings as required by study protocols.
- May assist with biosecurity measures, including sanitation of water systems and environmental audits.
- Supports clinical research sample collection in accordance with study protocols, including blood and tissue sampling, and assists with necropsies as directed.
- A High School diploma or equivalent (GED) is required.
- Ability to work in challenging environments (hot, cold, noisy, humid) with a strong focus on biosecurity and attention to detail. Must be physically capable of lifting up to 70 pounds occasionally and 50 pounds frequently.
- Travel outside the local area is infrequent. Must be comfortable working directly with animals during various procedures and have no allergies to animals or related materials.
- Must possess good vision and the ability to read clearly; corrective eyewear is permitted.
- Must maintain a calm demeanor when working with livestock.
- Willingness to learn quickly and work effectively in a team-oriented environment is essential.
- Demonstrates sound judgment and analytical skills.
- Ability to manage processes and projects effectively, contributing positively in team settings.
