Position Overview
Under the guidance of the Regional Manager I, the Branch Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily activities of all branch personnel. This role is crucial in managing circulation operations and executing policy and procedural modifications. The position supports a region that includes multiple locations and teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Directly supervises various branch roles, ensuring staff receive the necessary professional support to deliver exceptional customer service.
- Participates in the recruitment process, assisting in the selection and onboarding of new staff; collaborates with the Training Manager to provide comprehensive training in circulation, operational procedures, and customer service; assigns tasks and monitors performance, providing constructive feedback.
- Facilitates team meetings and supports the Regional Manager I in conducting branch meetings and team discussions. Manages staff electronic timesheets on a biweekly basis and addresses any security concerns as needed.
- Oversees the process of collection maintenance and weeding reports. Communicates operational updates and challenges to staff effectively.
- Acts as a liaison to the Manager of User Experience regarding operational procedures, updates the branch SharePoint page, and communicates important updates to stakeholders in the absence of the Regional Manager I.
- Reports maintenance issues to the appropriate contacts and manages study room bookings and usage.
- Engages in strategic planning and recommends policies and procedures aligned with the organization's strategic goals, assisting the Regional Manager I in local planning for new or expanded facilities.
- Communicates operational equipment needs during budget planning and oversees cash handling procedures, ensuring accurate financial records.
- Monitors monthly operational statistics and ensures completion of visitor count entries, reviewing data for staffing and scheduling purposes.
- Serves as a liaison to the branch Friends Group in the absence of the Regional Manager I and prepares sales figures for reporting as necessary.
- Represents the organization professionally within the community by participating in relevant groups and organizations that align with branch goals.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
- A Bachelor's Degree with 5 years of relevant experience, or a Master's degree in Library Science or a related field, or a high school diploma with 10 years of applicable experience, including at least five years in a relevant service role.
- At least six years of professional experience, including a minimum of three years in a supervisory capacity.
- Ability to travel between various work locations as required.
- In-depth knowledge of public service operations and library services.
- Demonstrated ability to learn and utilize library computer systems and software.
- Strong management and leadership skills to effectively administer library services.
- Ability to work independently while adhering to policies and procedures.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for engaging with diverse individuals and building effective relationships.
- Strong analytical skills for research and maintaining statistical records.
- Physical capability to handle library materials and operate necessary equipment.
- Proficient computer skills for utilizing software applications and internet services.
- The organization provides library services to local communities seven days a week.
- Employees may be required to work at any location within the organization.
