About Our Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Agricultural Credit Underwriting to lead our Retail Credit Underwriting team at Farm Credit Mid-America. As a key member of our leadership team, you will be responsible for setting credit team goals and objectives that align with our association's overall strategy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team of Credit Officers in supporting the Retail Agriculture portfolio, providing coaching and guidance in credit analysis, decision-making, and credit administration.
  • Develop and implement effective credit policies and procedures to ensure sound loan quality and credit administration.
  • Collaborate with the Head of Credit Agricultural Underwriting to develop and implement strategic plans, budgets, and goals that align with our association's objectives.
  • Approve or deny loans within delegated authority, make recommendations for loans exceeding authority, and establish loan terms and structures to manage loan risks.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key internal and external customers, including farmers, ranchers, and other stakeholders.
  • Provide strategic leadership and direction to staff, resulting in effective credit delivery, outstanding customer service, quality sales, and a sound portfolio.
  • Monitor the quality of the loan portfolio and report analyses of specific adverse credit trends, risks, or problems.
  • Develop staff to deliver value-added agricultural and financial information to customers and prospective customers.
  • Collaborate with sales leaders to achieve portfolio growth goals and determine ways to deliver value beyond customers' capital needs.
  • Lead the team to exceed turnaround time expectations and recommend, implement, and administer regulations, policies, and procedures related to credit and operational objectives.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A Bachelor's degree in agriculture, business, or a related field.
  • At least five years of credit analysis experience, with three years in a leadership role or demonstrating leadership capabilities.
  • Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to coach and develop staff.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with internal and external customers.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex financial data and make sound credit decisions.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize multiple tasks and responsibilities.
