Position Overview

Salary: $15 per hour

Join the team at Discover After School as a Before & After School Counselor, where you will play a pivotal role in fostering a safe and enjoyable atmosphere for elementary-aged children. Your mission will be to inspire and guide young learners through their after-school experiences, aligning with our core values and objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver exceptional service to students, families, colleagues, and school administration.
  • Address the physical, emotional, and educational needs of the children entrusted to your care.
  • Collaborate effectively within a team, cultivating healthy and cooperative relationships.
  • Maintain positive and effective communication with the Site Director.
  • Comply with all organizational and departmental policies and procedures to ensure the safety of children, parents, and staff.
  • Exemplify positive behavior and educate children in a manner that promotes mature and responsible conduct.
  • Complete all required training in a timely manner as mandated by Discover After School and governmental regulations.
  • Implement the provided curriculum and daily schedule, offering constructive feedback on a weekly basis.

Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 18 years old and possess a High School Diploma.
  • Successful completion of a Criminal Background Screening and Drug Screening.
  • First Aid, CPR, and AED certification (training can be provided by Discover After School).

Desired Skills:

  • Willingness to learn and grow.
  • Strong verbal, listening, and written communication skills in English are essential.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is advantageous.
  • Highly motivated, enthusiastic, patient, responsible, and committed to enhancing program performance.
  • Excellent communication skills for effective interactions with children and administration.
  • Problem-solving and critical thinking skills to navigate daily challenges.

  • Assist in the cleaning and maintenance of facilities and equipment.

  • Uphold safety protocols for children, parents, and staff.
  • Follow the scheduled activities as planned.
  • Familiarity with and adherence to policies and procedures is essential.
  • Flexibility to undertake additional responsibilities as required.
  • Promptly communicate any concerns to the Site Director.

Job Type: Part-time

Compensation: $15.00 per hour, with bi-weekly pay.
