Position Overview:

The Bilingual Medical Language Specialist offers essential language interpretation services, facilitating communication between patients/families with limited English proficiency and healthcare providers. This role is part-time, comprising 25 hours per week, from Monday to Friday. A valid Medical Interpreter Certificate is a prerequisite for this position.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver precise translation services for individuals in various social and informational contexts.
  • Exhibit proficiency in medical terminology in both English and the target language.
  • Manage the appointment schedule for both internal and external interpreter resources.
  • Accompany clients to external appointments when necessary.
  • Recognize and apply cultural nuances to meet the participant's needs.
  • Maintain accurate records of interpretation activities.
  • Coordinate with agency interpreters for scheduled appointments.
  • Contribute to achieving team and site objectives by engaging in administrative and operational tasks as required.
  • This role may involve responsibilities that necessitate wearing a face mask, requiring a proper seal. The incumbent may need to maintain facial hair standards to ensure an effective seal of the respirator.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent, along with a Certified Medical Interpreter designation from an accredited institution.
  • Fluency in both English and the target language, with strong verbal communication skills.
  • 0-2 years of experience in a healthcare translation setting is preferred.
  • Experience with elderly populations is a plus.
  • Proficient in MS Office and other office-based computer applications.
  • Willingness to travel locally as needed.
  • Covid vaccination is mandatory.
