Position Overview:
The Bilingual Medical Language Specialist offers essential language interpretation services, facilitating communication between patients/families with limited English proficiency and healthcare providers. This role is part-time, comprising 25 hours per week, from Monday to Friday. A valid Medical Interpreter Certificate is a prerequisite for this position.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver precise translation services for individuals in various social and informational contexts.
- Exhibit proficiency in medical terminology in both English and the target language.
- Manage the appointment schedule for both internal and external interpreter resources.
- Accompany clients to external appointments when necessary.
- Recognize and apply cultural nuances to meet the participant's needs.
- Maintain accurate records of interpretation activities.
- Coordinate with agency interpreters for scheduled appointments.
- Contribute to achieving team and site objectives by engaging in administrative and operational tasks as required.
- This role may involve responsibilities that necessitate wearing a face mask, requiring a proper seal. The incumbent may need to maintain facial hair standards to ensure an effective seal of the respirator.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent, along with a Certified Medical Interpreter designation from an accredited institution.
- Fluency in both English and the target language, with strong verbal communication skills.
- 0-2 years of experience in a healthcare translation setting is preferred.
- Experience with elderly populations is a plus.
- Proficient in MS Office and other office-based computer applications.
- Willingness to travel locally as needed.
- Covid vaccination is mandatory.
