Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled Medical Interpreter to join our team at UPHAMS CORNER HEALTH CENTER. As a Medical Interpreter, you will provide comprehensive translation services for patients and clients in their interactions with health center staff.

Key Responsibilities:
Provide in-person medical interpretation for non-English speaking patients during their interaction with health center staff and providers.
Translate for patients over the phone, as necessary.
Assist patients with forms, as needed.
Prepare translations for written materials, such as signs, letters, and marketing materials.
Participate in quality improvement activities, including tracking metrics such as visit time and number of patients served.
Requirements:
High-school diploma or equivalent (GED).
Medical Interpretation training and/or Certification strongly preferred.
Minimum of 1 year experience in a healthcare environment.
Experience and knowledge of HIPAA and Patient Confidentiality Requirements required.
Bilingual - English and Cape-Verdean Creole required. Trilingual - English, Spanish, and Cape Verdean Creole strongly preferred. Vietnamese and Haitian Creole also considered.
Preferred Qualifications:
Strong verbal communication, interpersonal, organization, and time management skills.
Excellent quality medical interpretations and strong judgment and problem-solving skills.
Availability on evenings and Saturdays preferred.
Detail-oriented and responsible.
Self-motivation to work independently.
Working Conditions:
Frequent interruptions and a busy customer service environment.
Ability to work with patients and coworkers in a fast-paced environment.
Supervisory Responsibility:
None.
