Warehouse Operations Leader

Location: Urbana, IL, US

The Warehouse Operations Leader is responsible for overseeing a diverse range of warehouse activities to ensure departmental efficiency and optimal output. This role involves collaborating closely with the Department Supervisor and providing support to all team members and equipment needs during their shifts. The leader is expected to spend approximately 85% of their time actively engaged on the warehouse floor.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to and strive to meet Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) related to safety, quality, production, efficiency, and service.
  • Implement practices that ensure product safety and compliance with relevant laws and company quality standards.
  • Commit to safety protocols and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
  • Conduct floor audits as outlined in Leader Standard Work, monitor performance metrics, verify compliance with procedures, address deficiencies, and escalate issues to the supervisor when necessary.
  • Facilitate communication with incoming shifts regarding ongoing issues or challenges.
  • Collaborate with other departments to enhance communication and operational efficiency.
  • Promptly notify the supervisor of any issues that may hinder goal achievement and propose potential solutions.
  • Perform routine tasks in alignment with shift requirements.
  • Actively engage in Operational Excellence initiatives and participate in lean process improvements.
  • Coordinate and manage dock operations, including the routing and sequencing of trailers and freight.
  • Communicate with vendors and internal departments regarding deliveries, lost shipments, and discrepancies in paperwork or quantities.
  • Prepare and manage shipment documentation for all inbound and outbound logistics.
  • Work with internal and external transport companies to prioritize and expedite shipments.
  • Utilize ERP systems to monitor and control site inventory.
  • Oversee cycle counting, investigate discrepancies, and identify root causes.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and generate required reports.
  • Report any discrepancies, damaged items, or unidentified packages to the supervisor.
  • Analyze incoming inventory and optimize space allocation.
  • Ensure effective inventory management techniques, such as First In, First Out (FIFO).
  • Coordinate inventory movements to maximize space utilization.
  • Train employees on SAP systems and assist with troubleshooting, serving as a subject matter expert in supply chain and inventory management.
  • Support ongoing training for new and existing employees to ensure comprehensive understanding of job requirements.
  • Provide constructive feedback to the supervisor regarding employee performance and daily activities.
  • Demonstrate strong attention to detail and accuracy in all tasks.
  • Exhibit excellent organizational skills, prioritizing workload to meet deadlines.
  • Possess the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects effectively.
  • Maintain a Powered Industrial Truck (PIT) license.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in basic math and counting skills.
  • Utilize purchasing and inventory software effectively.
  • Exhibit proficiency in the English language for effective communication and training.

Qualifications:

  • Two years of experience in warehouse or material handling operations in a fast-paced environment.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, including report and document creation in Word and Excel.
  • Associates or Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Previous experience in a leadership role and familiarity with SAP systems is advantageous.
  • Experience in a manufacturing or high-volume warehouse setting.
