Position Summary:

The Healthcare Support Specialist plays a crucial role in assisting medical professionals and nursing staff in providing direct patient care. This position reports to the Charge Nurse and/or Nursing Shift Supervisor.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Monitor and record vital signs, including blood pressure, pulse, respiration, and temperature as instructed.
  2. Assist with patient admissions, including bed assignments, personal belongings search, unit orientation, and identification procedures.
  3. Support laboratory specimen collection and processing, including phlebotomy tasks.
  4. Provide assistance to physicians during patient examinations as needed.
  5. Support detoxification patients with daily living activities such as eating, bathing, and mobility.
  6. Assist with treatment procedures, including the application of cold packs, heating pads, and basic bandaging.
  7. Collaborate with the Director of Nursing or designee in managing inventory and ordering supplies.
  8. Document all activities in clinical records following established policies and procedures.
  9. Participate in team meetings and shift reports as required.
  10. Address inquiries from patients, families, and visitors regarding program guidelines and services.
  11. Act as a First Responder during emergency management drills and alarms.
  12. Assist in urgent medical triage, including First Aid and CPR as directed.
  13. Communicate effectively with clinical, support, and administrative staff to ensure seamless patient care.
  14. Provide therapeutic responses to patients in crisis, referring to nursing and counseling staff as necessary.
  15. Maintain a welcoming, safe, and healing environment for patients and families throughout their care journey.
  16. Suggest improvements for service quality and delivery.
  17. Uphold confidentiality regarding company and patient information.
  18. Adapt positively to changes in the work environment.
  19. Perform additional duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • At least one year of experience in a healthcare setting is required; experience in behavioral healthcare is preferred.
  • Phlebotomy skills or willingness to be trained.
  • Intermediate computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Ability to quickly learn and utilize various medical and clinical software.
  • Familiarity with addiction and withdrawal symptoms is preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to provide calm and supportive responses to individuals in crisis.
  • Problem-solving and analytical skills are essential.
  • Excellent organizational abilities to adapt to changing patient needs in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to make informed decisions in complex situations while recognizing when to seek assistance.
  • Cultural sensitivity and openness to diverse patient experiences are necessary.
  • Knowledge of cultural, age, and population-specific characteristics relevant to patient care.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team and provide guidance and training to others.
  • Ability to de-escalate crises calmly and professionally.
  • If in recovery, two years of verifiable abstinence is required; active participation in a twelve-step program is preferred.

Work Environment:

  • This position involves working in a campus setting with outdoor movement between buildings and requires adherence to safety precautions.
  • Frequent interaction with individuals in crisis, necessitating additional safety measures.
  • May require performing CPR/First Aid as needed; certification or eligibility is required.
  • Position may involve long hours and varying shifts, including weekends and overnight stays during inclement weather.
  • Physical requirements include the ability to lift up to 30 lbs and push/pull up to 100 lbs, as well as navigate uneven terrain.
  • Must possess the ability to perform various physical activities, including walking, standing, and using fine/gross motor skills.
