Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Facilities Maintenance Specialist to join our team at The City of Falls Church Virginia. As a key member of our Public Works department, you will be responsible for overseeing the maintenance, repair, and alteration of public buildings and equipment, city-wide.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and direct the work of building maintenance crews involved in performing HVAC, plumbing, electrical, fire systems, and security systems maintenance and repairs.
  • Plan and manage work schedules and supervise staff to meet deadlines and objectives in the maintenance and repair of building and facilities.
  • Coordinate work with other City departments or tenants to ensure seamless operations.
  • Estimate labor and material costs for maintenance and repair projects.
  • Respond to emergency calls and investigate issues related to electrical, plumbing, HVAC, fire systems, and security systems.
  • Supervise the maintenance of job reports and cost on work performed by the division.
  • Manage budget and provide input and recommendations for field issues.
  • Provide cost estimations and obtain outside cost proposals as needed.
  • Maintain and provide data regarding workload and material inventory problems and highlights.
  • Provide excellent customer service and interact with the department, other departments/agencies, vendors, contractors, and the community to inform and resolve issues, conflicts, damages, and safety hazards.
Requirements
  • Thorough knowledge of building maintenance and repair methods and requirements.
  • Thorough knowledge of work standards and practices in various building trades.
  • Thorough knowledge of mechanical equipment, air conditioning, refrigeration, fire systems, standby emergency power, preventive maintenance programs, and water treatment systems.
  • Thorough knowledge of contracting and applicable Federal, State, and City Building Codes or laws.
  • Good knowledge of the plumbing and electrical trades.
  • Skill in arithmetical computations and the use of a variety of tools used in building trades.
  • Ability to plan and direct the work of a variety of building service employees, including skilled workers.
  • Ability to read and interpret building plans and specifications and to draw plans and write specifications for building repair and minor building construction work.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, public officials, contractors, and the public.
  • Ability to inspect and evaluate the work done by skilled workers and others employed on construction repair projects.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Two years of college or equivalent experience in building construction and maintenance work.
  • Mechanical engineering and strong HVAC background or Master Mechanical License and Universal refrigerant recovery license.
  • Commercial Driver's License.
