Position Objective: Under minimal supervision, the State Opioid Response (SOR) Grant Prevention Specialist implements prevention initiatives aimed at enhancing awareness and preventing misuse and overdose associated with stimulants and opioids.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in human services or a related field.
  • Certification as a Prevention Specialist or the ability to obtain certification within 18 months of employment.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience in facilitating group sessions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Experience in public speaking (preferred).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
  • Possession of a valid driver's license.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Advocate for the destigmatization of addiction.
  2. Demonstrate knowledge of the Strategic Prevention Framework and Public Health Model.
  3. Coordinate services with referral sources and community resources.
  4. Provide direct service hours to the community.
  5. Complete necessary reports, documentation, and evaluation tools in a timely manner.
  6. Design prevention programs tailored to community needs and special interest groups.
  7. Understand the addiction disease process and apply core prevention functions to job responsibilities.
  8. Utilize and/or develop evaluation tools to assess outcomes for prevention initiatives.
  9. Achieve the short-term outcomes of the SOR.
  10. Collaborate with Integrated Provider Network (IPN) Grant prevention staff and Strategic Initiatives to Prevent Drug Overdoses (SIPDO) Grant prevention staff to enhance overdose prevention services.
  11. Provide training to clients, families, and healthcare professionals on topics such as Stimulant Use Disorder, Opiate Use Disorder, Medication Assisted Treatment, overdose training, Naloxone distribution, and stigma. Additional topics may be required by relevant health authorities.
  12. Coordinate media campaigns as mandated.
  13. Promote Tele-Naloxone and local pharmacy Naloxone initiatives.
  14. Attend required monthly provider meetings.
  15. Complete all necessary training as mandated.
  16. Represent the organization and the prevention program at all relevant functions.
  17. Stay informed about local, state, and national prevention programs, trends, and research.
  18. Participate as a member of the team and engage in all team meetings and activities as directed.
  19. Maintain confidentiality in accordance with professional standards and legal requirements.
  20. Deliver exceptional customer service consistently.
  21. Act as a role model and demonstrate positive relations.
  22. Assume additional responsibilities as assigned by management.

Work Schedule: 8-hour shifts

  • Shift: 8:30 AM - 5 PM
  • Monday through Friday; occasional evenings
