About the Role:

As a Surgical Technician at Universal Health Services, you will play a vital role in the surgical team, providing care to patients of all ages. Your primary responsibility will be to prepare and maintain the sterile instruments, supplies, and equipment required during surgical procedures. This includes assembling supplies, setting up tables, and applying principles of asepsis. You will also assist and anticipate the needs of the surgeon during procedures, working within established scope of practice. Additionally, you will collaborate with the registered nurse to maximize efficient intra-operative practice, minimize room turnover, and promote prudent use of resources.

Responsibilities:
  • Assemble and prepare sterile supplies and equipment for surgical procedures.
  • Set up tables, instruments, and supplies according to the type of surgical procedure.
  • Apply principles of asepsis and demonstrate knowledge of sterilization and disinfection techniques.
  • Assist and anticipate the needs of the surgeon during procedures.
  • Collaborate with the registered nurse to maximize efficient intra-operative practice.
  • Decontaminate equipment, instruments, and supplies according to procedures.
  • Identify and respond appropriately to emergency situations.
  • Assist with cleaning and maintenance of rooms, equipment, and furniture.
  • Assist with inventory of supplies and equipment.

Qualifications:
  • High School Graduate or equivalent required.
  • Graduate of approved school of surgical technology or appropriate on-the-job training required.

Certifications/Licenses:
  • Surgical technologist certification preferred.
  • Current Basic Life Support Certification required.

Other Skills and Abilities:
  • Demonstrate knowledge and ensure compliance with facility standards and guidelines.
  • Demonstrate compliance with hospital policies and procedures at all times.
  • Ability to set priorities and appropriately organize workload and complete assignments in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrate ability to relate to clinical personnel and medical staff, as well as ability to interact well with the public.
  • Must have knowledge of PC and applications.
