As a Firmware Engineering Manager at Daikin, you will take charge of the firmware development team, ensuring the effective delivery of innovative products while providing essential support for existing firmware on legacy systems. You will oversee a skilled group of embedded firmware engineers dedicated to the design, development, and testing of firmware for various devices including thermostats and controls. Your role will involve creating strategic project plans, executing capital initiatives, and managing significant projects that require collaboration across multiple functions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the complete life cycle of embedded software utilized in Embedded Controllers, such as thermostats and related accessories.
  • Manage personnel, projects, and technology, acting as both a people manager and subject matter expert.
  • Demonstrate expertise in programming embedded systems using the C programming language, actively contributing to development, troubleshooting, and design reviews.
  • Develop and maintain project timelines for product launches and design updates.
  • Lead the embedded software team, ensuring productivity and appropriate resource allocation based on workload demands.
  • Facilitate project coordination both within the department and with other departments to guarantee timely project completion within budget constraints and with high quality.
  • Guide teams in best practices related to software processes, architectural standards, design patterns, and implementation techniques.
  • Define product requirements, specifications, and testing documentation.
  • Ensure that solutions and technical features are delivered in accordance with requirements, specifications, and timelines, maintaining high quality standards.
  • Investigate and propose innovative development operations technologies and solutions, providing justifications for recommendations.
  • Prototype theoretical concepts and deliver comprehensive studies, guidelines, and recommendations for the development team to implement.

Knowledge & Skills:
  • Demonstrated leadership experience with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Proven track record in managing embedded firmware development teams.
  • Expertise in embedded C programming for electromechanical devices across various industries (HVAC, Medical Devices, Appliances, Automotive, Flow Control).
  • Extensive experience with microcontroller-based systems from manufacturers such as Microchip, NXP, Atmel, ST, and Renesas.
  • Familiarity with version control systems and release processes, including tools like Bitbucket, GitHub, and GitLab.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and project management skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills with strong business acumen.
  • Ability to foster collaboration and build strong interpersonal relationships within teams.
  • Demonstrate sound judgment, a strong work ethic, and integrity in all professional activities.
Experience:
  • Minimum of 10 years in embedded software development.
  • At least 5 years of experience managing embedded software teams.
  • Preferred experience in leading HVAC or thermostat controls development projects.
Education:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering.
  • Master's Degree is preferred.
