Safety and Wellness Operations Leader

Shearer's Foods is a prominent contract manufacturer and private label provider in the North American snack sector. Position: Environmental Health and Safety ManagerYour Role:
This pivotal position is part of the senior management team at the facility, responsible for spearheading a comprehensive safety and wellness initiative through a proactive lens. The aim is to cultivate a Safety Culture where the safety and well-being of our team members is the foremost priority. This dynamic leader will engage with team members on the production floor daily, facilitate safety communications, and conduct stretching exercises during shift meetings while collaborating across departments to ensure effective safety training and compliance.
Reporting Structure: This role reports directly to the Plant Site Director and the Director of Safety.
Key Responsibilities:
- Foster a supportive safety culture centered on people.
- Oversee processes to guarantee a safe working environment consistently.
- Guide the facility to achieve or surpass established corporate safety objectives aligned with business needs.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local safety regulations, staying updated on evolving requirements; manage audits and inspections.
- Implement programs and training to acknowledge and promote safe practices throughout the facility.
- Encourage accountability among leaders to exemplify safe behaviors.
- Address unsafe actions and conditions within the workplace.
- Collaborate with the Site Director, HR, and Workers' Compensation experts on matters related to injuries, leaves, and accommodations.
- Maintain a strong sense of urgency in communication and a proactive approach to issues.
- Stay informed on industry trends and best practices within the Safety Community.
- Ensure all relevant data, compliance records, training, and reporting are accurate and in line with regulations, utilizing insights to identify and address trends.
- Build high-performing teams and nurture top talent.
- Manage the safety budget with a focus on practical business and financial responsibility.
- Provide coaching and leadership to others.
- Adopt a caring and positive approach to influence and motivate the team.
- Utilize whole systems thinking in decision-making.
- Effectively manage projects and processes.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Safety, Operations, Engineering, Business, or a related field is preferred.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in Environmental Health and Safety is required.
- Proven experience in influencing and training large manufacturing teams to promote a safe work environment and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
- Demonstrated ability to lead others with a servant leadership style.
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations, Lockout/Tagout procedures, and other relevant safety requirements.
- Flexibility to work varied schedules as needed.
- Experience collaborating with regulatory agencies.
- Strong priority-setting skills to direct activities and manage performance.
- Ability to influence without formal authority and work collaboratively with senior leadership.
- Strategic thinking skills to develop integrated solutions for complex issues.
- High energy and action-oriented approach to achieving safety, health, and environmental goals.
- Approachable demeanor to establish credibility.
- Results-driven mindset with the ability to leverage relationships across the organization.
